Suspect a Stroke? Act FAST

What is FAST?

FAST requires an assessment of three specific symptoms of stroke:

  1. Facial weakness – can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
  2. Arm weakness – can the person raise both arms
  3. Speech problems – can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
  4. Time to call 999

Out of Hours

What to do in an emergency

Please ring the usual surgery telephone number and you will be transferred to the appropriate out of hours service.

If you are calling on behalf of someone else please have relevant information available, such as:

  • address
  • date of birth
  • current medication
  • name of their GP.

If considered necessary you will be referred to a duty Doctor or Nurse Practitioner who will contact you and either:

  • give further telephone advice
  • ask you to attend a local centre

OR:

  • visit you at home.

Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe any of the following:

  • chest pain
  • loss of blood
  • suspected broken bones

go to your nearest accident and emergency department or call 999.

COVID-19

An update on some of the changes at your GP Practice

All our doctor appointments will initially be telephone consultations.

If you need to be examined, the Doctor or Nurse will ask you to come in, please ring the bell to let us know you are here. If you can, come alone but carers are welcome. For your own safety you may be asked to wait outside or in your car.

Please wear a face covering when visiting the surgery. A face covering does not need to be a medical mask, it can be a homemade fabric mask or a scarf. Face coverings are not compulsory for children under 11 or anyone who has breathing problems. Due to the current situation we need to limit the number of patients in the practice . We are still OPEN but the main doors will be CLOSED. All appointment requests MUST be made by telephone. DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY. Our Doctors will call you back, many matters can be dealt with over the phone, the Doctor will only ask patients to come to surgery if absolutely necessary.

Prescription Requests

Please continue to order your medication on line, by telephone or use the practice mailbox. You will not be able to collect your prescription from the Practice. Please inform us of your choice of chemist and we will send your prescription electronically.

Dispensing Patients

We are using a window to the left of the main doors at Tean to hand over patient medications. For now, we have changed our Dispensary opening hours to 9.00 – 12.00 noon and 2.00pm – 5.00 pm (closed Thursday pm). Our dispensary phone line is now manned between 10.30 – 12.00 noon and 2.30 – 4.00 pm (closed Thursday pm)

Nurse Clinics

Routine annual health check clinics have been suspended. However the following are ESSENTIAL and you should attend your appointment. Baby Immunisations, Zolodex, Pneumonia and Shingles vaccinations, Wound Checks, Urgent ECG’s, Smear Tests

We will keep you updated. If you have a mobile phone please ensure we have the correct number so we can send you text messages.

If you have any concerns please contact the practice on the usual telephone numbers. We understand that our phone lines will be busy, and this can be frustrating, we will do our best. Please share this information with friends, family and neighbours who are our patients.

Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
