Tean Surgery

If you have an allergy OF ANY KIND please make sure to tell the doctor or reception staff.  IF WE DO NOT KNOW YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY IT MAY CAUSE A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE.

During Surgery hours an emergency is a medical problem that needs attention within 30 minutes. After hours it is a medical problem that cannot wait until the surgery opens.

Home Visits

We are almost always able to provide a quicker, safer and more thorough service in the proper setting of our fully equipped surgeries. Please telephone before 10:00am (unless an emergency) to speak to a Doctor who will make any necessary arrangements if you do need a visit.

We try to investigate and deal with your problems ourselves using if necessary the resources available to us at the hospital centre or from other professionals locally. This avoids you getting trapped on outpatient waiting lists. If however, you need special treatment, tests or even a further opinion we can arrange it. If you feel you would prefer an alternative opinion we will help you, but may recommend that you arrange it privately.

Repeat Prescriptions

To avoid needing to see a Doctor each time you need further supplies of regular medication we have arranged a repeat prescription system. Please ensure you give 48 working hours notice to the Dispensary when you need more medication.

Suspect a Stroke? Act FAST

What is FAST?

FAST requires an assessment of three specific symptoms of stroke:

  1. Facial weakness – can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
  2. Arm weakness – can the person raise both arms
  3. Speech problems – can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
  4. Time to call 999

Our staff aim to answer a call within three rings, but mornings are busy so to avoid frustration, ring later for routine enquiries, results, etc.  Should you require help outside the normal opening hours of the Surgery, please call our main switchboard  and have a pen and paper handy for advice on what to do

Telephone TEAN SURGERY (01538 722323) if you need help.

For the Doctor

All consultations are by appointment only

Please ring the Surgery you wish to attend on the day you would like to be seen.  If this is difficult please inform the staff as 40% of all our appointments are available to pre-book.

To help us to ensure that the new system runs smoothly it would be appreciated if you:

  • Arrive on time. If you are late you might not be seen
  • Cancel any unwanted appointments
  • Question if you need to see the doctor or would the nurse be more appropriate

Our Nursing Staff are virtually always in attendance, and the Doctors may consider it appropriate to use their expertise to deal with your problem.

We aim to see 70% of patients well within 30 minutes of an appointment time assuming 10 minutes per consultation.  We review our performance but complex problems or emergencies may interfere with this and we would inform you if that were happening.  In return we expect to be informed if you are unable to keep your appointment.

All practices must be able to direct patients to the service and offer a choice of evening or weekend appointments on an equal footing to core hours appointments.

An update on some of the changes at your GP Practice

All our doctor appointments will initially be telephone consultations.

If you need to be examined, the Doctor or Nurse will ask you to come in, please ring the bell to let us know you are here. If you can, come alone but carers are welcome. For your own safety you may be asked to wait outside or in your car.

Please wear a face covering when visiting the surgery. A face covering does not need to be a medical mask, it can be a homemade fabric mask or a scarf. Face coverings are not compulsory for children under 11 or anyone who has breathing problems. Due to the current situation we need to limit the number of patients in the practice . We are still OPEN but the main doors will be CLOSED. All appointment requests MUST be made by telephone. DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY. Our Doctors will call you back, many matters can be dealt with over the phone, the Doctor will only ask patients to come to surgery if absolutely necessary.

Prescription Requests

Please continue to order your medication on line, by telephone or use the practice mailbox. You will not be able to collect your prescription from the Practice. Please inform us of your choice of chemist and we will send your prescription electronically.

Dispensing Patients

We are using a window to the left of the main doors at Tean to hand over patient medications. For now, we have changed our Dispensary opening hours to 9.00 – 12.00 noon and 2.00pm – 5.00 pm (closed Thursday pm). Our dispensary phone line is now manned between 10.30 – 12.00 noon and 2.30 – 4.00 pm (closed Thursday pm)

Nurse Clinics

Routine annual health check clinics have been suspended. However the following are ESSENTIAL and you should attend your appointment. Baby Immunisations, Zolodex, Pneumonia and Shingles vaccinations, Wound Checks, Urgent ECG’s, Smear Tests

We will keep you updated. If you have a mobile phone please ensure we have the correct number so we can send you text messages.

If you have any concerns please contact the practice on the usual telephone numbers. We understand that our phone lines will be busy, and this can be frustrating, we will do our best. Please share this information with friends, family and neighbours who are our patients.

Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
