Appointments

Appointments for the Doctor

All consultations are by appointment only

Please ring the Surgery you wish to attend on the day you would like to be seen.  If this is difficult please inform the staff as 40% of all our appointments are available to pre-book.

To help us to ensure that the new system runs smoothly it would be appreciated if you:

  • Arrive on time. If you are late you might not be seen
  • Cancel any unwanted appointments
  • Question if you need to see the doctor or would the nurse be more appropriate

Our Nursing Staff are virtually always in attendance, and the Doctors may consider it appropriate to use their expertise to deal with your problem.

We aim to see 70% of patients well within 30 minutes of an appointment time assuming 10 minutes per consultation.  We review our performance but complex problems or emergencies may interfere with this and we would inform you if that were happening.  In return we expect to be informed if you are unable to keep your appointment.

Online Appointments

Patients can register with the surgery prior to using the online booking system, so please ask the reception staff to do this for you.  Patients will also be able to cancel ALL appointments thereby avoiding wasted appointments, even if you realise you cannot make your appointment at 2am!

Please click on the Emis link below if you have already registered with us for this service :

EMIS Access Appointments

**Statement of Intent**

Please download and read our Statement of Intent regarding online booking of appointments, ordering of repeat prescriptions and by 31st March 2015 access to summary information (as a minimum) in their patient record.

Allergies

If you have an allergy OF ANY KIND please make sure to tell the doctor or reception staff.  IF WE DO NOT KNOW YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY IT MAY CAUSE A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE.

Telephones

Our staff aim to answer a call within three rings, but mornings are busy so to avoid frustration, ring later for routine enquiries, results, etc.  Should you require help outside the normal opening hours of the Surgery, please call our main switchboard  and have a pen and paper handy for advice on what to do Telephone TEAN SURGERY (01538 722323) if you need help.

Repeat Prescriptions

To avoid needing to see a Doctor each time you need further supplies of regular medication we have arranged a repeat prescription system.  Please ensure you give 48 working hours notice to the Dispensary when you need more medication.

Referrals

We try to investigate and deal with your problems ourselves using if necessary the resources available to us at the hospital centre or from other professionals locally. This avoids you getting trapped on outpatient waiting lists.  If however, you need special treatment, tests or even a further opinion we can arrange it.  If you feel you would prefer an alternative opinion we will help you, but may recommend that you arrange it privately.

Appointments for the Nurse - Tean Surgery

We operate a booked appointment system for all clinics. When booking your appointment please let Reception know what your appointment is for, so that they can advise you when would be the best time for you to come and the length of appointment you require.

Home Visits

We are almost always able to provide a quicker, safer and more thorough service in the proper setting of our fully equipped surgeries. Please telephone before 10:00am (unless an emergency) to speak to a Doctor who will make any necessary arrangements if you do need a visit.

Emergencies

During Surgery hours an emergency is a medical problem that needs attention within 30 minutes. After hours it is a medical problem that cannot wait until the surgery opens.

What to do when the Surgery is Closed

Please ring the usual surgery telephone number and you will be transferred to the appropriate out of hours service.

If you are calling on behalf of someone else please have relevant information available, such as:

  • address
  • date of birth
  • current medication
  • name of their GP.

If considered necessary you will be referred to a duty Doctor or Nurse Practitioner who will contact you and, either give further telephone advice, or ask you to attend a local centre or in appropriate circumstances visit you at home.
